Pensacola Role Model: Alicia Tappan—A Voice for Survivors

In a world where resilience meets advocacy, Alicia Tappan stands as a beacon of hope and transformation. As the Founder and CEO of Survivor-Led Solutions (SLS), Alicia has dedicated her life to empowering survivors of human trafficking, creating a trauma-informed and survivor-centered space where voices can be heard, and change becomes a reality.

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology with a focus on Crisis Management, Alicia’s journey from survivor to advocate and leader is nothing short of inspiring. Her nonprofit, SLS, is committed to providing survivors with dignity, credibility, and tools for leadership and professional development. It also ensures access to long-term mental health support. Through this work, Alicia helps bridge the gap between victims and survivor leaders, fostering a community that empowers individuals to rise above their circumstances.

In 2019, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody named Alicia Survivor of the Year, recognizing her tireless efforts in human trafficking awareness and education. Most recently, she was awarded the George Washington Medal of Honor for her civic contributions. Her innovative programs, like Incarcerated Survivor Services, focus on restorative justice by offering tools and resources to incarcerated individuals affected by trafficking. These initiatives not only reduce recidivism but also provide a path to hope and healing.

Alicia’s passion extends beyond her organization. She collaborates with educators, law enforcement, medical professionals, and community leaders to foster awareness and mentorship. As an accomplished public speaker and author of the Brave Girl Diaries series, she shares her story to inspire others to join the fight against human trafficking.

Living in Florida with her husband and three sons, Alicia remains driven by a calling to “find God’s missing children.” Her work through SLS is a testament to the power of survivor leadership and the impact of faith-driven determination.
